I have to confess, and you might say “Sad,” but I’m left cold by most sports with the exception perhaps of boxing and karate. I just cannot seem to muster the enthusiasm required to get involved or excited by it.
However, I came across this guy – Charlie Sifford who is renowned in American athletics. According to my research, he joined the golfing fraternity as his chosen sport, and it was a “closed shop.” It was a sport that up until 1961, was a “whites only” only fraternity and its by-laws prevented any “Non-White” individuals from entry. However, Charlie became the first African American player on the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour.
Sifford achieved success in the sport by overcoming all the associated discrimination and accompanying harassment. He was the winner of two major competitions and became the first African American to be elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004. It’s to his credit that golfers of all races can now enjoy the sport at all levels and it’s true to say that “Charlie Sifford opened the doors to the professional game” for all.
Charlie gave racial inclusiveness to the game of Golf opening the doors to all-comers.
The main issue with this is that it is “Temporal” when Golf goes out of fashion all the doors disappear. Not so however with Jesus.
Charlie opened doors only to golf whereas Jesus has opened doors to the whole of humanity for time and eternity and to all races.
The main principle in the gospel we have been provided with and is for outreach is opening doors. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all countries, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to follow everything I have told you. And I will undoubtedly be by your side till the end of time” – “Matthew 28:19-20”
The Greek term ethnos (ἔθνος, ους, τό), from which the word ethnic also derives, is the source of the word nations in verse nineteen. To put it another way, “Go and create disciples of all races, and nationalities,” All people now have access to the Father because of what Jesus did on the cross.
As a result of God’s care for us, we now have the opportunity to care for others. We can open the door for someone who never imagined they would be personally welcomed into God’s home and family.
So! What’s stopping us from turning the handle and making Jesus available wherever we go?

A questão principal com isso é que é “Temporal” quando o Golfe sai de moda todas as portas desaparecem. Não é assim, porém, com Jesus.
Charlie abriu as portas somente para o golfe, enquanto Jesus abriu as portas para toda a humanidade por tempo e eternidade e para todas as raças.
O princípio principal do evangelho que nos foi dado e que é para o alcance é abrir portas. Jesus disse: “Ide e fazei discípulos de todos os países, batizando-os em nome do Pai, do Filho e do Espírito Santo, e ensinando-os a seguir tudo o que eu vos tenho dito”. E sem dúvida estarei ao vosso lado até o fim dos tempos” – Mateus 28, 19-20″.
O termo grego ethnos “ἔθνος, ους, τό”, do qual deriva também a palavra étnica, é a fonte da palavra nações no versículo dezenove. Por outras palavras: “Ide e criai discípulos de todas as raças, de todas as nacionalidades”.
Como resultado do cuidado de Deus por nós, temos agora a oportunidade de cuidar dos outros. Podemos abrir a porta para alguém que nunca imaginou que seria acolhido pessoalmente na casa e na família de Deus.
Então, o que nos impede de virar o cabo e tornar Jesus disponível onde quer que vamos?
