“A Smooth Sea Will Never Produce a Skilled Sailor”
“A Smooth Sea Will Never Produce a Skilled Sailor” Back Story: Just yesterday – Friday 26th July 2024 I was having my quiet time, and the expression “Smooth Sea Will Never Produce a Skilled Sailor” was quoted on the radio, it was 2pm. As is so often the case It immediately – and I believe […]
The Difference between Hunger and Appetite.
I’ve been thinking about something I read in the Bible recently, and I wanted to share it with you. It’s about this idea of hunger versus appetite, and how it relates to our lives and faith.
You know how Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” Matthew 5:6. I’ve been pondering what He meant by that. It’s like He’s talking about a deeper kind of hunger than just wanting stuff, you know?
“From Goals Scored and Sets Completed to Souls Won – Rekindling the Church’s Passion for the Great Commission”
In this article, I want to try and provide a balance however between the fervour, enthusiasm and engagement that the Body of Christ may put into these two sporting events (football/soccer and tennis.) plus others.
In addition, to explore the stark contrast between the societal fervent interest and cultural obsession with sports and our often-lukewarm approach and indifferent attitude to spiritual matters of eternal significance i.e. “Winning the Lost for Jesus.” and how this is reflected in the fulfilment and the outworking of the “Great Commission.”
The Unchanging Word – Holding Steady in a Shifting World.
Let’s have the courage to proclaim the full, uncompromised Gospel, trusting in its inherent power to save and transform lives.
By doing so, we honour the timeless nature of God’s Word and ensure that its life-changing message continues to reach hearts and minds across generations.
Let’s remember “The fields of the harvest are white, but labourers are few.”
Exploring Truth in an Ever-Evolving World.
Allow me to present a provocative idea. “The veracity of a statement is not established by the consensus of the majority.” Consider the scenario when we attempt to establish the rule of gravity by a committee decision! Preposterous and ridiculous, correct? Of course it is. We do not create God’s truth; it’s discovered via exploration, rather than being fabricated, we seek it out. It’s quite similar to archaeology in that we uncover long-lost artefacts by digging them up and removing the dust, we uncover what has always there.
A Path to True Transformation.
When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, something amazing happens. We receive forgiveness for all the ways we’ve messed up, but it doesn’t stop there. God gives us the Holy Spirit, who begins to work in our lives, producing these “fruits.”
This is crucial because it means these qualities aren’t just things we try to imitate. They become part of who we are. The Holy Spirit actually changes us from the inside out. If you want to think of it this way – Our hearts become like a fertile field and in it God plants seeds and these grow and are called the “Fruit of the Spirit.”
